Visit to Derasar

Under an Educational visit planned by the Tattvam association, students were taken to the Jain Shwetambar Derasar, Sion to gain further insight into Jain culture and philosophy. Mr. Avin Shah a professor at Sies of arts, commerce and science guided the students and explained various Jain traditions, as well as practices, that were followed. The students were elucidated on the various meanings of the carvings depicted on the walls and pillars of the temple as well as how Jain temples are built.
Utkarsha Event- Among Us

Among Us, a competition, on the theme Selfishness was organized to test the friendship of participants. It was an intra-collegiate competition held in Room no. 16. A total of thirty-nine students (11 of them were male and 28 female) from all streams and courses participated zestfully in the competition. They took part in groups of three or four. After being introduced to the rules and regulations of the games in general, participants showed varied reactions. Some were astonished while others were extremely excited to win.

From 7 th February to 4 th March 2023 talks on various career and job opportunities after B.A. were held in hybrid mode. On 7 th February Ms. Shreya Punj guided TYBA students on a career in Editing and Publishing, Mr. Anuj Jaisinghani of Gurshabad spoke on Translation as a career. On
8 th February Ms. Benita Fernando shared her expertise in the field of print journalism and Ms. Smriti Mani spoke on courses in TISS, her experience of studying there and job opportunities in NGOs. On 9 th February Mr. Vishal Chandel and Mr. Ganesh Iyer held a session on jobs in Animation. And Dr. Satish Jayaram shared his knowledge on the workings of the hotel industry
and job opportunities available in the industry. On 13 th February Dr. Michelle Philip gave a talk on Podcasting with her technical team. On 4 th March Ms. Debasrita Saratkar held a session on careers in Law and preparation for CLAT and MH-CET.

The event began with Somuki, the secretary of Tattvam association, and Ashwina from TYBA - Department of Philosophy, quoting a verse from the Bhagavad Gita and welcoming the principal, Dr. Uma Shankar, who then performed grantha pooja before beginning with the event. She narrated a beautiful story from the book and mentioned that If youre doing something make sure to be good at it as Krishna vouches for it. Further she spoke about the philosophy of Gita, elaborating on its teachings and emphasizing on the fact that it is something that every individual can relate to. The second half of the seminar consisted of students gracing the stage with their favorite shlokas from the Gita which they relate to the most and explained its relevance to their life events.

Blood Donation Drive at Dadar Railway Station

The NSS Unit organized a Blood Donation Drive in association with Sion Hospital Blood Bank at Dadar Central Railway Station where successfully 100 units of blood was collected. The volunteers conducted a thorough campaigning in the Station area and managed to convince travelers to get their blood tested and donated.

Guest Speaker, Fr Lancy Prabhu for the day. A total of 22 students attended the event, including Philosophy professors Dr Kamala Srinivas, Prof. Vrushali Gupte and Prof. Neerja Israni. Father Lancy Prabhu provided the audience with an excellently detailed explanation of J. Krishnamurtis Philosophy, based on the Concept of Awareness. According to J. Krishnamurti, the speaker explained, total awareness is essential for a free mind. Fr. Lancy Prabhu further elucidated that, in the Concept of awareness, the things we think and how we react to situations are the product of conditioning.

Brain Unlock on the theme- Moral Dilemmas was organized for students to convey their opinions and thoughts. It gave students a platform to gain more clarity and develop open-mindedness. The event began with a few words from Prof. Vrushali Gupte, Chairperson of Tattvam, who referred to this event as a brain teaser. She along with Dr Kamala Srinivas were the judges for the event. A total of 10 teams participated Epicurus, Hypatia, Kant, Locke, Descartes, Chanakya, Ramanuja, Vivekanand, Osho and Ghosha. Fifty-eight students across all streams and courses participated zestfully in the event.

The Tattvam Association of SIES College of Arts, Science and Commerce, adhering to Socrates wisdom, organized an interactive session on Philosophy and Finance. The guest speaker for the session was an illustrious alumni of SIES, currently working as a Financial Analyst at JP Morgan, Mr. Saurabh Rajput. The event was the first offline event of the association. The Secretary of the Tattvam Association, Ms. Pooja Nair, introduced the guest speaker. Mr. Rajput then addressed the crowd and shared his life experiences and his interactions with assorted groups of clients. He also shared his journey as a student, his professional life and his ardent interest in philosophy and shift towards finance.

On 5th August 2022, an essay writing competition in English and Hindi was conducted to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence-“Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav”. The 15 participants were provided with topics in both English and Hindi. The winners were awarded their prizes on 13th August 2022 by the DCP, Mumbai Police Mr. Sanjay Patil during the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.

Prof. Misra enlightened us with his ever-engaging words on Yoga and Life. He emphasized that Indian Psychology has contributed significantly to the lives of people. All students from the Yoga Upasana Course attended this session. The guest speaker was introduced by Somuki Nadar, a student of TYBA. The online event was graced by the august presence of the head of the department and institution, Dr. Uma Shankar. Also present for the program were professors of Philosophy and Psychology, Dr. Kamala Srinivas, Vrushali Gupte, Amruta Padhye and Shama Todurkar and Dr. Dinesh Pathak from the Hindi Department. The event was made exciting with talks on lesser-known aspects of life such as Sankhya Yoga, Mahavakyas, the perspectives of Yoga, Stithpragnya, amongst many more. Prof. Misra also gave instances from the Bhagavad Gita, Vedas, Upanishads, and other prominent books of the contemporary times.

Guest lecture on oroastrianism then and now, was organised on the 13th of July by Ms.Vrushali Gupte, Chairperson of Tattvam, from 7:20 to 8:08. The guest lecture which was arranged for the Second year students of the Comparative study of religion that was centred on Zoroastrianism. Yazishni Gandhi, a former student at SIES presented this lecture on the old and modern Zoroastrian traditions which gave the second-year students an inside look into their rich culture.

Alumni Talk, an online interactive session arranged by the philosophy association of SIES, Tattvam, was conducted on t8thth of July 2022 from 4:00 Pm to 5:20. The Session was joined by guest speakers Alumninis Bansi Patel, who is currently doing a three-year LLB course from Jitendra Chauhan college of law, Roshan Christopher, who has completed his Masters in philosophy from Delhi University, Sanika Kamble, a graphologist with a diploma in Yoga, Medi spa and acupuncture, Forum Dedhia who is pursuing Philosophy at MSU while working as a training manager at ITLH, Netra Iyer who has three years of work experience with Human resources and currently working with Deloitte as an HR specialist and lastly Sayali Jadhav, who is in the process of completing her masters of social work from Mumbai university.

The Tattvam Philosophy Association, jointly with the Past students Association, NCC and NSS units, SIES, celebrated the International Yoga Day on 21st June, 2022. The theme for this years International Yoga Day was Yoga for Humanity.Dance with Yoga a workshop was organised to commemorate the Yoga divas. The event took place in the college Quadrangle at 9 a.m. Around forty-five students attended the event and enthusiastically participated as well.
