“Workshop on Problem Solving in Chemistry for NET/SET ASPIRANTS" 28/02/16 A state level “Workshop on Problem Solving in Chemistry for NET / SET aspirants” was organized by the Department of Chemistry on Sunday, 28th February 2016 to commemorate the National Science Day. 123 participants have attended and benefitted from this workshop. The workshop was inaugurated by our dynamic principal Dr. Harsha Mehta with lighting of lamp and Ganesh vandana by S.Y.B.Sc. student Mr. Sujit Kumar. The participants were welcomed by Mr. S. H. Bohra, Head Department of Chemistry and compered by Dr. Pallavi Roy. The speakers Dr. Gajanan Rashinkar, Department of Chemistry, Shivaji University, Kolhapur and Dr. H. A. Parbat, Department of Chemistry, Wilson College, Mumbai were introduced by Ms. Mahalaxmi Nadar. Mr. M. R. Bhatia, Ex. Vice Principal and Head Department of Chemistry, Ms. Uma Palkar and Mr. K. Balakrishnan had also graced the occasion. Total eleven teaching staff members along with six non-teaching staff members from the department were present. Dr. Gajanan Rashinkar vividly explained in Session I the paper pattern, method of study and time management skills. He also discussed about the essential qualities required in an aspirant to qualify NET/SET examinations. He also motivated the participants by giving real life examples of other candidates who had qualified NET/SET under his guidance. He explained the students about the importance of quantitative analysis of previous years question papers and based on that he discussed the specific areas to focus upon in order to successfully qualify the examination. At the end he gave hints to identify a couple of important name reactions and the way the questions on them had been asked in previous years. Dr. H. A. Parbat during the session II gave inputs on ways to prepare for the physical chemistry portion of the NET examination, with special reference to Quantum Chemistry. He gave tips to solve various questions on Eigen values, Operators, application of Hamiltonian and Schrodinger wave equation. He also threw light on calculation of degeneracy of orbital’s including ESR. Vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Santosh Tiwari to acknowledge the efforts put in by all colleagues in the department (both teaching and non-teaching) and TYBSc students. The overwhelming participation from all over the state was the outcome of the first initiative taken by the department by designing an online application form for carrying out the registration process and creating a link in the college website as www.siesascs.edu.in/netchemworkshop thus making the approach more easily accessible all over the state and publicizing through social media platforms. The feedback from the participants were excellent and stated that they would be eagerly looking forward to have such more workshops in near future.   Photos No report file linked
