The Department of Biotechnology conducted a three day workshop on “Techniques in Proteomics” for the teachers from various colleges across Maharashtra. The workshop, held between 26th February and 28th February2018 was supported by the ‘Teachers training programme’ of the Lady Tata Memorial Trust.
The workshop was aimed at providing theoretical and practical knowledge about the methodologies, experimental designs; laboratory instrumentation and advanced equipments used for proteomic data generation as well as bioinformatics techniques used for the analysis and interpretation of protein sequence data
25 teachers were selected for the workshop on the basis of their statements of purpose. The key note speaker was Dr Surekha Zingde, Former Deputy Director, ACTREC, Navi Mumbai and President, IWSA. The lectures on different topics related to proteomics were delivered by eminent scientists from ACTREC, BARC, IIT(B), NIRRH and Shimadzu Analytical (India). The practical sessions were conducted at our college and at the Toxicology Drug Monitoring Laboratory, Sion by the staff members from the National Institute for Research in Reproductive Health, T D M Laboratory and the Department of Biotechnology

The department of Biochemistry, jointly with Mumbai Immunology Group (MIG), Advanced Center for Treatment, Research and Education in Cancer (ACTREC), organized a one day state level seminar titled “Cancer Biology and Therapy: Recent Developments and New Perspectives” at SIES College of Arts, Science and Commerce.A total of 104 participants registered comprising of 88 students and 16 teachers from various colleges and institutes from within Maharashtra.This state level seminar provided a unique opportunity for the students, academicians, researchers and Scientists to gather and deliberate on various aspects of cancer biology and therapy.
