This Centre is located among the Airoli mangroves and aims towards conserving the mangrove ecosystem as well as spread knowledge about the biodiversity and importance of mangroves to the common people. The students were thrilled to walk among the mangrove plants and observe their diversity as well as adaptive features. |

As a part of the curriculum, the T.Y.B.Sc. Botany Applied Component (Horticulture) students were taken to the Annual Vegetable, Fruit, and Flower show at D. G. Ruparel College. This show is organized by "National Society of the Friends of the Trees' to showcase various fruit trees, vegetables, and flowering plants to the common man. Aspects of lendscaping, conservation and eco friendly living are also explored in this show. Various compctitions like plant identification, landscaping, best out of waste, fruit & vegetable carving, flower arrangement, bonsai making, etc. are also conducted to spread awareness among the masses. There are many stalls set up towards the end of the exhibition which sell pots, plants, gardening equipment, etc. where one can purchase their gardening requirements.

Rani Baug is a botanical garden and zoo located at Byculla, in the heart of Mumbai city. This garden houses many unique, rare, and exotic plants in addition to the rich local flora of the city. Few old and heritage trees are also planted in this garden which are more than a century old. |

assessment of 40 marks in Google form format consisting of MCQ type

Department of Botany conducted one-credit course on Tree Appreciation in blended mode on 1st May 2022 and 7th May to 10th May 2022. One offline field visit to Veermata Jijabai Bhosle Udyan, Byculla was organized on 1st May, 2022 which lasted for about three hours. Interesting features of the plants and their unique remarkable significance were highlighted to the student participants in simple understandable language, considering their non-Botany background. Online lectures with the help of powerpoint presentations were conducted by every faculty of the Botany department from 7th May to 10th May, which covered various aspects of the plant world, focussing mainly on the tree species.

Department of Botany conducted one bridge course per semester in online mode through MS Teams platform. The details of the bridge courses were as follows.
o Semester-I – Study of parts of microscope (20th & 22nd October 2022)
o Semester-II – Morphology of flowering plants (28th January & 2nd February 2022)
Powerpoint presentations were shown for better understanding of the concepts related to light microscope and dissection microscope in the first semester and morphological aspects of angiosperms in the second semester. On Diamond Jubilee of the College, the Department of Botany celebrated ‘Environmental awareness week’ from 5th June to 12th June. Three competitions were held during environmental awareness week.
• Essay writing competition: The participants were supposed to write essay on anyone topic from the three. 1000 – 1200 words were expected in essay. Topics for essay competition were My role in environment conservation, Impact of climate change on Himalayas, Impact of lockdown on environment.
• Poster making competition: The participants were supposed to make a poster using their own creativity. For poster three topics were provided - Ecotourism and Urban forestry, Green energy resources, Mangrove ecosystem in India.
• Quiz competition: The quiz competition was conducted through google form. Topic for quiz competition was We and our environment. |

Credit course on ‘Tree Appreciation’ |

Department of Botany conducted one-credit course on ‘Tree Appreciation’ in blended mode on 1st May 2022 and 7th May to 10th May 2022. One offline field visit to Veermata Jijabai Bhosle Udyan, Byculla was organized on 1st May, 2022 which lasted for about three hours. Interesting features of the plants and their unique remarkable significance were highlighted to the student participants in simple understandable language, considering their non-Botany background. Online lectures with the help of powerpoint presentations were conducted by every faculty of the Botany department from 7th May to 10th May, which covered various aspects of the plant world, focussing mainly on the tree species |

Department of Botany organized celebration of Departmental festival - ‘Kalpavriksha’ on 2nd January 2019. It was held in biology laboratory 2 and Room No, 2 from 9.00am to 5.00pm. The fest consisted of two events viz., Bio-art and Bio-fun intercollegiate competitions. A Health food mela was also organized by the volunteers to sell various healthy foods in fusion forms prepared by the volunteers. Fusion food items like nutritious ‘Chana chaat’, tangy lemonade and refreshing kokum sharbat were really relished by the attendees as well as participants.
It was organized under the broad objective of soft skill development, subject application and awareness creation among the participants and volunteers.

Department of Botany organized celebration of Departmental festival - ‘Kalpavriksha’ on 15th December 2018. It was held in room no. 2, ground floor, from 9.00am to 5.00pm. The fest consisted of two events viz., Bio-art and Bio-games intercollegiate competitions. Art-Mela, the exhibition cum sale of plants and plant products, was also organized. All the exhibits were prepared by the students of Botany from FY, SY and TYBSc classes. It included the sale of Artistic handmade bookmarks, decorative envelopes, greeting cards, dry-fruit chocolates, and fruit preserves.
It was organized under the broad objective of soft skill development, subject application and awareness creation among the participants and volunteers.

In this festival, competitions such as paper quilling jewellery, biorangoli, Pehchan kaun?, Essay writing and Bio-games like ‘Selfie hunt’, ‘Poke hunt’, ‘Sense your senses’ were arranged. Exhibition cum sale of Book marks, envelopes, greeting cards, chocolates, nursery plants, etc. was also organized. During Kalpavriksha, the students got platform to show their skills and creativity. The festival was attended by more than 150 students. |
