This workshop demystified research and clarified fundamental concepts in research. It also nurtured deep thinking and developed analytical skills amongst students, so that it enabled them to discuss and develop ideas, and to address problems in collaboration with peers. It also fueled the spirit of curiosity of learners, who are also problem solvers and scientific investigators in their own way.

The guest lecture which was arranged for the Second year students of the Comparative study of religion that was centred on Zoroastrianism. Yazishni Gandhi, a former student at SIES presented this lecture on the old and modern Zoroastrian traditions which gave the second-year students an inside look into their rich culture.

Prof. Misra enlightened us with his ever-engaging words on Yoga and Life. He emphasized that Indian Psychology has contributed significantly to the lives of people. All students from the Yoga Upasana Course attended this session. The guest speaker was introduced by Somuki Nadar, a student of TYBA. The online event was graced by the august presence of the head of the department and institution, Dr. Uma Shankar. Also present for the program were professors of Philosophy and Psychology, Dr. Kamala Srinivas, Vrushali Gupte, Amruta Padhye and Shama Todurkar and Dr. Dinesh Pathak from the Hindi Department. The event was made exciting with talks on lesser-known aspects of life such as Sankhya Yoga, Mahavakyas, the perspectives of Yoga, Stithpragnya, amongst many more. Prof. Misra also gave instances from the Bhagavad Gita, Vedas, Upanishads, and other prominent books of the contemporary times.

On 5th August 2022, an essay writing competition in English and Hindi was conducted to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence-“Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsavâ€. The 15 participants were provided with topics in both English and Hindi. The winners were awarded their prizes on 13th August 2022 by the DCP, Mumbai Police Mr. Sanjay Patil during the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations.

The guest speaker for the session was an illustrious alumni of SIES, currently working as a Financial Analyst at JP Morgan, Mr. Saurabh Rajput. As a part of the curriculum, the T.Y.B.Sc. Botany Applied Component (Horticulture) students were taken to the Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan (Rani Baug) to observe various garden locations, landscaping techniques and plants in this unique garden. Rani Baug is a botanical garden and zoo located at Byculla, in the heart of Mumbai city. This garden houses many unique, rare, and exotic plants in addition to the rich local flora of the city. Few old and heritage trees are also planted in this garden which are more than a century old.

The exhibition showcases the prowess of DAE in nuclear science and technology. It covers the complete gamut of nuclear fuel cycle from front end (covering various aspects and stages involved in fuel fabrication for nuclear reactors) to the back end (re-processing of the spent fuel and waste management) and nuclear reactor technology (including different types of nuclear reactor designs), current and future. This exhibition emphasizes the necessity of nuclear energy in combating global warming. In addition, the exhibition also includes non - power DAE technologies employed for various societal benefits, such as application of radio - isotopes and accelerators in agriculture, medicine and industry, and use of neutron and gamma radiations in basic research.

The 'Mesmerising Fungi' photography competition was an exciting event held on World Fungus Day, 2nd October 2022, organised by the department of Botany in collaboration with Association of Fungal Biologists (AFB), bringing together photography enthusiasts and nature lovers from all corners of India. The competition was kept open to participants two weeks before the results were declared on World Fungus Day. The department also conducted Webinar lectures along with declaration of result for the photography competition on the same day.
Brain Unlock on the theme- "Moral Dilemmas'' was organized for students to convey their opinions and thoughts. It gave students a platform to gain more clarity and develop open-mindedness. The event began with a few words from Prof. Vrushali Gupte, Chairperson of Tattvam, who referred to this event as a "brain teaser." She along with Dr Kamala Srinivas were the judges for the event. A total of 10 teams participated– Epicurus, Hypatia, Kant, Locke, Descartes, Chanakya, Ramanuja, Vivekanand, Osho and Ghosha. Fifty-eight students across all streams and courses participated zestfully in the event.

Guest Speaker, Fr Lancy Prabhu for the day. A total of 22 students attended the event, including Philosophy professors Dr Kamala Srinivas, Prof. Vrushali Gupte and Prof. Neerja Israni. Father Lancy Prabhu provided the audience with an excellently detailed explanation of J. Krishnamurti’s Philosophy, based on the Concept of Awareness. According to J. Krishnamurti, the speaker explained, total awareness is essential for a free mind. Fr. Lancy Prabhu further elucidated that, in the Concept of awareness, the things we think and how we react to situations are the product of conditioning.

The event began with Somuki, the secretary of Tattvam association, and Ashwina from TYBA - Department of Philosophy, quoting a verse from the Bhagavad Gita and welcoming the principal, Dr. Uma Shankar, who then performed grantha pooja before beginning with the event. She narrated a beautiful story from the book and mentioned that 'If you're doing something make sure to be good at it' as Krishna vouches for it. Further she spoke about the philosophy of Gita, elaborating on its teachings and emphasizing on the fact that it is something that every individual can relate to. The second half of the seminar consisted of students gracing the stage with their favorite shlokas from the Gita which they relate to the most and explained its relevance to their life events.

The exhibits included the Creative experiments on Column Chromatography, Golden Rain, Dying of cloth, Red dye test, Secret messages(based on chemistry of transition metal complexes) and a few colorful crystal decorated ornaments were also exhibited .Our Principal madam Dr. Uma Shankar also visited our exhibition. During the Academic the year 2022 – 2023 department of chemistry had given an option to all SYBSc and TYBSc chemistry students to prepare a poster presentation on various topics of chemistry on the basis of their application in advanced chemistry topics. They were given a choice to use any technical software to create their own poster presenter of the topic.

Botany Applied component (Horticulture) students were taken to the annual fruit and flower show at Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan, Byculla to familiarize the students to common fruiting and flowering plants used in day-to-day life. This show is organized by the Brihanmumbai Mahanagar Palika annually to spread awareness about plants among the masses.
As a part of the curriculum, the T.Y.B.Sc. Botany Applied component (Horticulture) students were taken to the annual fruit and flower show at Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan, Byculla to familiarize the students to common fruiting and flowering plants used in day-to-day life.
The motive behind this course was to bridge the gap of knowledge in the field of plant morphology and to give students an overall idea for floral sectioning, slide preparations and identification of floral parts.

This show is organized by "National Society of the Friends of the Trees' to showcase various fruit trees, vegetables, and flowering plants to the common man. Aspects of lendscaping, conservation and eco friendly living are also explored in this show. Various compctitions like plant identification, landscaping, best out of waste, fruit & vegetable carving, flower arrangement, bonsai making, etc. are also conducted to spread awareness among the masses. Industrial Visit to Parag dairy industry and Bhagyashree Dairy farm (Manchar)
A three day visit to Mahableshwar was undertaken for our students. We visited Mapro factory, Cheese Factory, Madhusagar honey factory and Chitale Bandhu. The students got to see and understand how an industry functions. Also the various processes from procuring the raw material to final packaging was explained and observed by our students.

Career guidance workshop for students of BA Economics
As a part of the curriculum, the M.Sc. Botany students were taken to the Coastal and Marine Biodiversity Centre, Airoli in order to impart awareness regarding mangrove ecosystem. This Centre is located among the Airoli mangroves and aims towards conserving the mangrove ecosystem as well as spread knowledge about the biodiversity and importance of mangroves to the common people. The students were thrilled to walk among the mangrove plants and observe their diversity as well as adaptive features.

On 7 th February Ms. Shreya Punj guided TYBA students on a career in Editing and Publishing, Mr. Anuj Jaisinghani of Gurshabad spoke on Translation as a career. On 8 th February Ms. Benita Fernando shared her expertise in the field of print journalism and Ms. Smriti Mani spoke on courses in TISS, her experience of studying there and job opportunities in NGOs. On 9 th February Mr. Vishal Chandel and Mr. Ganesh Iyer held a session on jobs in Animation. And Dr. Satish Jayaram shared his knowledge on the workings of the hotel industry and job opportunities available in the industry. On 13 th February Dr. Michelle Philip gave a talk on Podcasting with her technical team. On 4 th March Ms. Debasrita Saratkar held a session on careers in Law and preparation for CLAT and MH-CET.

The Department of Botany organized an event ‘Botanica 75’ to celebrate Azadi Amrut Mohotsav. As a part of the event, posters display on 75 commercial Indian crops, 75 Ayurvedic plants of Indian origin, 75 job opportunities in botany and plant- exhibition were arranged. A book entitled ‘75 important trees of Mumbai’ was also published by the department.
17th Inter-Collegiate/Institute/Department Aavishkar Research Convention 2022-23 was organized by Department of Students’ Development, University of Mumbai. Out of 7 Research Proposals (11 student participants) from SIES College, 1 Research Project was selected for the Final rounds and received consolation prize.

Among Us, a competition, on the theme 'Selfishness' was organized to test the friendship of participants. It was an intra-collegiate competition held in Room no. 16. A total of thirty-nine students (11 of them were male and 28 female) from all streams and courses participated zestfully in the competition. They took part in groups of three or four. After being introduced to the rules and regulations of the games in general, participants showed varied reactions. Some were astonished while others were extremely excited to win.
Under an Educational visit planned by the Tattvam association, students were taken to the Jain Shwetambar Derasar, Sion to gain further insight into Jain culture and philosophy. Mr. Avin Shah a professor at Sies of arts, commerce and science guided the students and explained various Jain traditions, as well as practices, that were followed. The students were elucidated on the various meanings of the carvings depicted on the walls and pillars of the temple as well as how Jain temples are built.
