New EDC board of directors were given new portfolios and internship certificates were given to last year team in MMR from 10:00am to 12:00pm.
The value for the month of August was Fortitude. The month began with the promotion of the value Fortitude by putting up posters on the boards across the college. Students of the BMM department prepared posters along with the following value lab members- Meghna S (main value poster+1), Ashwini (2 digital posters posted on fb page-SIES Value Lab), Sidharth N (1), Lokeshwari (2), Rushabh (2), Lakshmi N (1), Ashish (3) Mrudula (1), Sahana (1) and Amruta (1). A poem was written by value lab member Aparna Pitale who also prepared its digital format which was posted on the official SIES Value lab facebook page. Class to class promotion along with motivational speech on the value fortitude was conducted by First year BMM students. A write up on fortitude was done by Student representative of BMM and value lab member Vasanth which was posted on value lab facebook page ‘SIES Value Lab’. A facebook page was created by BMM department to promote fortitude ‘SIES, Value Lab, BMM’.

Interdisciplinary add-on course in Digital Electronics was organized by Physics Department for IT students.
Mumbai-based Psychiatrist Dr. Gaurav Kulkarni delivered a Guest Lecture in which he enlightened Degree College students about role of different parts of brain and neurotransmitters in influencing behaviour. He also shed light on psychological disorders, neuropsychiatric therapies, the concept of neoruplasticity.
Visit to Godrej cultural lab, Vikhroli on 4th August, 2017 with BMM students. • The Godrej cultural lab, Vikhroli had conducted a three day event on Partition of India. There were several exhibitions, performances, showcases, discussions and screenings on the campus. The event was from 4-6 th of August, 2017. The FYBMM, SYBMM AND TYBMM journalism students were accompanied by Ms. Vaneeta Raney and Sir R .N. Bhaskar. • The exhibitions included well of remembrance, stitching history, the museum of object, echoes of Sindh, split ends. These events gave a glimpse of the whole partition phase like the suffering of people, loss of their near and dear ones. There were panel discussions by various authors and eminent personalities. The incidences were shared by the witnesses and other transmitters researching on the same. Also, pouring their heart out, as those personalities had gone through the struggle and pain. • There were films screened based on the partition one amongst them was Begum Jaan. The films portrayed the real situations of the prostitutes during the partition phase and had great impact on the people watching the film. • The event had feelings flowing throughout as people remembered their families, relatives with a sentimental connect and experiences. It was a Cherishable involvement sensitizing the past history and remembering the sacrifices and the struggles of great men.
Distribution of sanitary pads under health and hygiene by Mass media and NSS students at Kawthewadi on 6th August, 2017. • The BMM department of SIES College of arts, science and commerce, Sion west collected sanitary napkins to spread awareness about personal hygiene at Kawthewadi, our adopted village under the guidance of the BMM course coordinator. The pad distribution was done on 6th of August, 2017. • This event was conducted in association with the NSS Unit of our college who distributed sanitary pads to women and educated its importance too. Under the health hygiene section as an ISR activity, the SYBMM students prepared boxes for collection of pads and conducted class to class information drive requesting the students of the college to do a charitable contribution by donating sanitary pads. • All the collected pads were then handed over to the NSS and BMM student volunteers to distribute at Kawthewadi. Consequently, 500 sanitary pads were collected from BSC IT, CS, BIO Tech, etc. departments of the college and the college students taught better ways to maintain hygiene, also helped to overcome the traditional way which was unhygienic and promoted diseases too. • In the due course mass media department was informed that, the impact is so positive that the ladies asked the girl volunteers for a second round of donation of pads as they are using the same and found it more comfortable. The activity was quite satisfactory.

A discussion on various books written on Shivaji Maharaj. The event aimed at tracing the iconography of Shivaji through the writings of different scholars. The event was organized in collaboration with the History Association.
A book reading session of the students of T.Y.B.A class followed by the discussion on 'Reflections on the Literature on Chhatrapati Shivaji' was organised together by the dept of History and Politics . Students of T.Y.B.A presented the book review on four different books. 1)Krishnaveni kamat on , ` Shivaji and His Times: by G.B. Children Film Academy a franchise of La Cinematheque conducted a film making course in their summer school workshop from January to March 2017, under the guidance of Mrs. Ganga Mukhi and Mr. V. Rajesh for SYBMM students.
As a part of class presentation under Comparative Religion, Applied Component paper, students presented a Powerpoint presentation on Judaism religion.
Shri Rajesh Joshi noted poet and critic delivered a lecture on the topic ‘premchand aur hamara samay’ on the occasion of Premchand Jayanti.
BMS Students participated in a band event organised by Pradnya Vision in Shanmukhanda Auditorium, Sion.
A poster making competition on the value Fortitude was conducted on 16th August, 2017. The digital poster for the same was prepared by Rushabh Savla. Ten college students from different departments participated. The posters were assessed by our Honorable Principal and Chairperson of The Value lab Dr. Uma Shankar. Ms. Mansi Mudaliar from FYBMM bagged the first prize while Ms. Sreyasi Sengupta was the first runner up. BMM students collaborated with Student council members and performed a flash mob promoting Fortitude on 18th August, 2017.
BMM department in the month of August in collaboration with the SIES Value Lab propagated the importance of the value – FORTITUDE • The BMM department of SIES College of Arts, Science, and Commerce in collaboration with the Value lab had engaged in the pursuit of 'Fortitude' as a value for the month of August proposed by Vaneeta Madam. In order to know each student's idea of Fortitude and to promote artistic excellence, a Poster making competition was held on 16th August 2017. The participants were asked to report to the Media Lab, where they stashed their posters. They exhibited their posters and expressed their views quite impressively, with the help of anecdotes, quotes and catchphrases. The participants were from various departments. The competition offered them a platform to demonstrate their creative prowess. • The posters were finally assessed by the Principal and Chairperson of the Value lab, Dr. Uma Shankar. The results were declared on 23rd August, 2017. Mansi Mudaliyar from FYBMM had won the first prize, while Sreyasi Sengupta from FYBA had bagged the second. Fortitude' as a philosophy, is alluringly charming and interesting. The basic precept of Fortitude is that it is always better to endure your hardships with pleasure, than to cower in fear of failure, plagued by your turbulent emotions that eventually invites you to annihilate and subordinate yourself.

Movie ' The Boy in the stripped Pajama' , which is based on the theme of war and pacifism to observe the 'World Humanitarian Day', was screened jointly by the Philosophy Association and Rotaract Club of SIES College. Post screening the students discussed and came with their perspectives on the theme from the movie point of view.

To understand multifacated concept of Multiculturalism symposium was organised. Dr. Uma Shankar shed light on Philosophical perspective about Multiculturalism. The concept was discussed from Political perspective by Mr. Ajinkya Gaikwad, Assistant Professor, Department of Politics. Mr. Meet Shinde, Assiatant Professor, Department of Psychology, P.N.Doshi College discussed this concept from Psychological perspective.
