The volunteers participated in the voter's awareness rally from Vidyalankar College, Vadala to GTB station. Volunteers sensitized and educated the public about the upcoming elections and requested them to vote.
The volunteers participated in the rally, organized by United Way Mumbai in the slums near Makawadi monorail station to make people aware about Hepatitis B and C. A seminar on Thalassemia was attended by the volunteers which gave them information about its symptoms and prevention. The seminar was followed by a Thalassemia check up. 56 volunteers were educated and checked up for Thalassemia.
Polio doses were given to the children from the age of 0 to 5 at Sion, Matunga & Dadar Stations. NSS volunteers also went from door to door to give the polio doses. More than 1000 children were benefitted from this drive.

One day bridge course in Physics practical was conducted for SYBSc students on 9th,10th and 11th June 2016 separately for each batch. A total of 62 students were fortunate to participate in this course. The course was conducted to develop skill in the use of measuring instruments – vernier calipers, micrometer screw gauge, travelling microscope and adjustments of spectrometer.

Past-student of the Department, Vidhya Shenoy along with her colleague Nandini Ray conducted a workshop on Dance Movement Therapy. They elaborated on this therapy, its effectiveness by engaging the students in various activities like dancing and painting.
An industrial visit was organized for the students of SYBSC and TYBSc to Goa from 24th – 29th Aug 2016. 19 students from the Statistics department were part of this visit. The purpose of the visit was to understand how class room teaching of the subject like Quality Control techniques are used in industry. We visited the Statistical Quality departments of two big plants- Monginis cake factory and Goa Paints & Allied products plant. The students got a clear perception into the working of the Statistical Quality Control departments in these plants. We also visited Dona Paula & Calangute beach as also the Arussim beach right next to the Heritage Village Club Arussim where we stayed. The Basilica of Bom Jesus which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and Fort Aguada were also part of our itinerary.

The Mandal inaugurated its activities for the academic year with a poetry recitation event . Students presented poems on the theme of ‘rains/paaus’. The poems that they recited were either composed by them or were the compositions of famous Marathi poets. Students also enthusiastically presented songs and dance performances on the same theme. The event comprised of on the spot, extempore elocution on a topic of current social relevance. Participants were given one minute to express themselves and were judged on different dimensions like presentation, voice modulation etc. 30 students from both junior and degree college participated. Ms. Geeta Paluskar (Faculty, Mathematics Department, Degree college) and Mr. Santosh Nar (Faculty, Mathematics Department, Junior college) were the judges. Rushika Jadhav( FYJC, Science) bagged the first prize whereas Janhvi Parab got the second prize.

Stat-o-mania : Triquest was conducted during Utkarsha 16-17. It consisted of three sub events: 1. Taboo with a twist:The participants were shown different pictures and asked to find out the statistical word describing the pictures. 2. Data analysis:The participants were made to solve basic multiple choice questions which were solved using their basic statistical knowledge and logical thinking. 3 Guess the word:The participants were made to hear songs and guess the statistical word hidden in the song. There were a total of 42 participants.

As a part of literary festival Utkarsha, on 20th September 2016, TYBA Psychology students conducted an Awareness Campaign on addiction to online games and social networking sites. This campaign was presented to Std VIII students of D. S. High School, Sion (W). Psychology students, in the form of a short skit, gave information about overuse and misuse of online games and social networking sites, their ill effects etc.

36 volunteers were trained for the Pulse Polio Drive.
Senior experienced volunteers gave a talk on Foundation, History and Importance of NSS. A board was also put up and everybody were told to give their opinion on What changes do they want to see in the society. 100 Newly joined volunteers were educated about Foundation, History and Importance of NSS.
Polio doses were given to the children from the age of 0 to 5 at Sion, Matunga & Dadar Station. NSS volunteers also went from door to door to give the polio doses. More than 1000 children were benefitted from this drive.

7 Days NSS Residential camp was held at Kawthewadi. Several events were organised like seminar on streetplay, clean up drive, candle making, survey in farmer's suicide, teaching English, mathematics, etc. to children, self defence lessons, survey on gender justice and gender equality, shramdaan, seminar on higher education, wall painting in school, a session on the idea of beauty, etc. The camp was organized for the education andsensitization of Kawathewadi villagers. Around 160 Villagers including children were bebefited from the programme.
Organized a workshop on The Gita Jayanti Fest to observe 'Gita Jayanti, The Glory of the Celestial Song' in association with Aarsha Vidya Pitam. The workshop compromised of series of sessions by Swami Bhramavidananda and Swamini Bhramaprajnanada that re-opened the ancient wisdom of the Gita and juxtaposed it with our modern lifestyle and society. ‘Ananadyatri’, Mr. Prakash Patwardhan was invited to give a talk on his experiences pertaining to travel and tourism. The program’ Pravas- ek anandayatra’ was in the form of interview ,where the students asked Mr. Patwardhan questions related to the cultural norms, sights to visit, geographical landmarks, culinary highlights etc. of the places that he visited. He also showed the students photographs of the places, thereby generating a keenness to visit those places.

Workshop on 6 Sigma techniques in the industry and LEAN methods was conducted for students of TYBSc by N R Hegde who is a Master Black Belt in Six Sigma. Six Sigma seeks to improve the quality of the output of a process by identifying and removing the causes of defects and minimizing variability in manufacturing and business processes. It uses a set of quality management methods, mainly statistical methods, and creates a special infrastructure of people within the organization, who are experts in these methods. Each Six Sigma project carried out within an organization follows a defined sequence of steps and has specific value targets, for example: reduce process cycle time, reduce pollution, reduce costs, increase customer satisfaction, and increase profits.

to help students understand Existential therapy, Psychology Association arranged screening of the movie ‘Life is Beaultiful’ on 22nd February 2017. This movie beautifully portrays how the protagonist in the movie, who is caught in concentration camp, gives meaning to the experience so that his son can cope with it. The elements of Existential Therapy were discussed in the light of the movie later.

The seminar with its academic and performance based approach made the audience experience music and its appraisal with new perspectives.More than 300 delegates(academic and non academic) participated.
1st prize in inter-college debate at M.D.College, Parel was won by Ms. Lakshmi Priya Pillai of TYBCom and Ms.Divya Sharma of SYBCom.

Vishnu Vaman Shirwadkar (Kusumagraj), the association organized a talk on ‘ Marathi Patrakarita-Shamata ani Sandhi’, by Mr. Sameer Karve, Assistant Sub-Editor, Maharashtra Times. He spoke on the relevance of language, its pragmatics and development in the field of journalism. He guided the students regarding how to pursue a career in media and how to improvise ones skills to be a part of this glamorous yet challenging world. Junior and Degree college students participated actively.

. To help them understand how to use SPSS, Department of Psychology organized a Workshop on Use of SPSS for Data Analysis on 10th March 2017. Resource person was Ms. Pradnya Khandeparkar, Head, Department of Statistics, SIES College, Sion (W). She taught students how to calculate correlation, regression, use SPSS to conduct t test and F test with some data.

• During the Academic year 2016-17, Department brought out the second manuscript HISTORICA. The theme of HISTORICA this year is ‘The Vedic Age’ and the department of Philosophy was invited to contribute the section on the Vedic Philosophy for this year’s manuscript.The Manuscript was inaugurated by Former HOD Philosophy, former Director of Anantacharya Institute of Vedanta studies and research, a refined scholar of Vedanta, Prof R.M.Dave. Principal, Dr. Uma Shankar delivered the welcome address at the inaugural.
The Department conducted a 10 hour bridge course with four modules for students of SYBA to help them grasp the complexities and technicalities of the subject. The course aimed to bridge the missing links in economic theory which would help students enhance their theoretical understanding of the subject.
